Connecting the unconnected: Expanding fiber in rural communities

For many families in small towns and rural neighborhoods, a fast, reliable internet connection isn’t a given—it’s a goal. And while cities and suburbs continue to enjoy ever-faster speeds and smarter smart homes, rural communities are still fighting to get online in a meaningful way.
At Kinetic, we think that’s a problem worth solving.
Why rural internet access is still so hard to get
There’s no shortage of demand for internet in rural areas. People want to work from home, stream shows, attend virtual doctor’s appointments, and help their kids succeed in school, just like anyone else. The challenge is infrastructure.
Rural areas often span large distances with relatively few homes per mile, which means it costs more to build internet networks in those regions, so many providers are slower to invest. Rocky terrain, older utility poles, and limited labor availability can make things even more complicated. In many cases, federal funding is necessary to make rural broadband expansion financially viable at all.
But for us, it isn’t just about spreadsheets. It’s about people. Because we don’t just serve rural communities—we live in them.
What Kinetic is doing to close the gap
We’ve made it our mission to deliver fiber to more of rural America, and we’re backing that mission with action. We work directly with local governments and residents to bring high-speed internet where it’s needed most.
In North Carolina, we recently broke ground on an $8 million fiber expansion project that will bring service to underserved homes in several counties, with support from local governments and the NC Department of Information Technology.
In Greenfield, Iowa, after a devastating tornado, we invested $650,000 of private funds to rebuild and upgrade the town’s infrastructure with resilient fiber, supporting Greenfield’s recovery and boosting its long-term potential for remote work, telehealth, and economic growth.
In Bullitt County, Kentucky, we’re connecting 6,300 homes and businesses with a $6.8 million fiber build, helping residents tap into everything from remote learning to modern streaming without lag or limits.
In Albemarle, North Carolina, we partnered with the small city to overhaul their municipal infrastructure, giving them reliable connectivity and built-in failover across critical public services, from water treatment to emergency response.
And across the country, we’re investing in innovations like the ResiPlow, a specialized piece of equipment that lets us install fiber with minimal impact on lawns, landscaping, and neighborhood infrastructure.
Kinetic is delivering multi-gig fiber internet to rural areas across our 18-state footprint, and we’re doing it with a boots-on-the-ground approach. These projects aren’t just checkboxes for us. They’re real, tangible improvements that help people stay connected to the things that matter most.
Recognition from the people who use it
We’re proud to say that our efforts haven’t gone unnoticed. This year, Newsweek named Kinetic the Best Rural Fiber Internet Provider for the second year in a row, thanks in part to our steady expansion, customer service, and network reliability. That recognition matters, but what matters more is seeing the difference our service makes.
In towns like Albemarle, city departments now run smarter and more securely. In Greenfield, families are getting back on their feet with internet access that supports school, work, and connections to loved ones.
And across the country, students can seamlessly log in to their online classrooms, families stream movies together without buffering, and local residents are starting home businesses they couldn’t run before.
